Privacy Policy

Arcana is an app by Occlusion. In short: Arcana doesn't collect any information about you or your files.

Your files stay on your Mac

Arcana opens, previews, extracts and changes archives on your Mac, and only when you ask it to. Your archives and their contents are never uploaded anywhere.

To show a preview or to open a file from an archive, Arcana extracts it to a temporary folder in its own storage on your Mac. Previews are deleted when the preview closes, and opened copies after a few days.

Passwords you type are used only to open, extract or encrypt the archive you are working with. Arcana keeps them in memory while that archive's window is open, and never stores or sends them anywhere.

No data collection

Arcana has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and it includes no third-party code that collects data. Arcana from the Mac App Store doesn't connect to the internet at all: the macOS sandbox it runs in doesn't allow it to. Help ▸ Arcana Support opens this website in your web browser.

Quick Look in Finder

The preview Arcana adds to Finder's Quick Look reads the archive Finder asks it to show, on your Mac, and nothing else.

Crash reports

If you choose to share crash data and analytics with app developers in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide Occlusion with anonymous crash reports and usage statistics, as described in Apple's privacy policy.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
